Nizza Monferrato

Nizza Monferrato and its prized Barbera wine, of which it is the undisputed capital, are part of the 50th UNESCO site of the Vineyard Landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato. We recommend a walk in the historical and commercial centre of Nizza Monferrato: the Campanon, a civic tower incorporated into the town hall, Palazzo Crova di Vaglio, built in the 18th century, which houses the multimedia museum Palazzo del Gusto, dedicated to the history of local food and wine, and Palazzo De Benedetti, also built in the eighteenth century.

The Barbera Docg

The area located in the Province of Asti has been selected within the territory of the Barbera vine, a variety cultivated for over 500 years in the Piedmont region, enclosing within its perimeter the most significant portion of the productive, cultural, and landscape system of the Barbera d’Asti D.O.C.G. In this context, the city of Nizza Monferrato stands out as the capital of Barbera from a commercial and promotional perspective, always essential due to its strategic position with respect to the provinces of Asti and Alessandria. Within this district, numerous testimonies related to peasant and wine culture are present. The Museum of Rural Life and Antique Prints Bersano is one of these places, established by Arturo Bersano starting from 1950, to collect the most poignant and at the same time joyful testimonies of the wine and peasant culture. Still recognized today as a museum of ‘know-how’, with its collection of vineyard working tools, it tells the story of the evolution of techniques and knowledge in wine production. The district “Nizza Monferrato and Barbera” includes 880 vineyards primarily cultivated with Barbera, 229 wineries specialized in the production of Barbera D.O.C.G. wine, a cooperative cellar in Vinchio and Vaglio Serra, and finally, the Regional Wine Shop of Nizza.
